Dr Sharmila Sambandam

MBBS, BMedSc, FRACGP

Metabolic Physician and General Practitioner specialising in weight loss and obesity management.

With a strong commitment to holistic wellness and preventative medicine, she aims to achieve optimal health outcomes for her patients. Her focus on obesity stems from a deep interest in preventing disease and improving quality of life by addressing the physical and mental health challenges associated with excess weight. She takes a compassionate, non-judgmental approach to care, understanding the difficulties of weight loss and the importance of support throughout the journey.

Dr Sambandam was mentored by Professor John Dixon, a leading international obesity researcher, through the Horizon Mentorship Program. She collaborates with a team of allied health professionals and incorporates advanced weight loss treatments into her practice. Her approach is personalised, helping patients develop sustainable, long-term weight management strategies. She is also involved in advancing obesity care through her work on the RACGP’s extended skills recognition program.

  • The Blackburn Course in Obesity Medicine, Harvard Medical School, USA
  • Currently pursuing PG Diploma in Obesity Management at University of South Wales, UK
